Child Workers Rescued

Child workers who were rescued from various parts of Coimbatore on Tuesday. Three child workers (below 14 years of age) were rescued from various parts of the city by the Kovai Child Labour Abolition and Support Society on Tuesday.The officials raided the shops and a textile unit at Thennampalayam and Somanur where the children were reported to be employed.The officials say that the public alerted them on children being employed at various shops and industries in the Karumathampatti – Somanur area.


The children, Easwaramurthy aged 12, Gopinath (14), and Mohammed Yusuf (12), were not attending school. Their parents would be brought to the Kovai CLASS office and counselled along with the children. “We will intensify our efforts to abolish child labour and see that the child workers are rehabilitated and sent back to school,” said Child Labour Project Director, D.Vijaykumar.
