Collector's Instruction
District Collector V. Palanikumar on Thursday said that power connections to 12 dyeing units in Perur and Selvapuram areas were disconnected as they were found to be discharging untreated effluents into open drains polluting the river Noyyal.Mr.Palanikumar told reporters that 41 licensed dyeing units were located in the area. Some of them were not having common effluent treatment plants and were letting the effluents into the Noyyal. The revenue officials were asked to inspect the dyeing units and the treatment plants.
While power supply was disconnected for 12 units, Revenue Divisional Officer, Coimbatore, M. Balachandran, served notices on the remaining units under section 133 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The revenue authorities had taken samples of effluents from dyeing units that had licence and effluent treatment facility. As the colour of the effluents remained the same even after treatment, the authorities had sent the samples to laboratories for tests.
Mr.Palanikumar said that door-to-door verification of family cards under the Public Distribution System (PDS) was under way. The verification work was originally scheduled to be completed by July 31. With the work not having been completed, the last date had been extended upto August 10, the Collector said.On complaints relating to inordinate delay in issuance of new family cards, District Revenue Officer S. Prabhakaran said that the work was disrupted due to a computer server error and it was sorted out recently. The printing had resumed and more than 4,500 cards had already been despatched.
Mr.Palanikumar said that the District Industries Centre was not entertaining any application for starting industries that had plastic manufacturing. Existing plastic manufacturers were being sensitised to the need for diversification. He also said that steps would be taken to eradicate the use of plastic tumblers in Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation-run liquor shops.
