Low Cost Solution To Control Air Pollution

The National Productivity Council (NPC) has come out with a low cost solution to control air pollution in cupola foundries. A demonstration of the technology and presentation of its details was arranged here recently by the engineering industrial associations.

President of the Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association (COINDIA) G. Rajendran told that foundries had to spend over Rs. 2 lakh each now to install air pollution control equipment. This was expensive for the small-scale foundries and hence the Coimbatore Tiny and Small Foundry Owners’ Association had initiated a study by the council.

The COINDIA had supported the initiative by providing Rs. 3 lakh for the study. The council studied the problem in the foundries here for the last two years and had developed a technology that would cost just Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 60,000 for a foundry. The technology was approved by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and would benefit about 500 small and tiny foundries here, he said. The COINDIA would now provide the design concept to the foundries interested in installing the technology.
