Widen MTP Road
The Mettupalayam Road Protection Association has appealed to the Collector to take measures to widen the road and make it motorable and accident-free. In a memorandum, M. Devendran, Secretary of the Association, said that the road that formed part of NH 67 extension connecting Coimbatore with Udhagamandalam also happened to be a gateway for the northern part of Kerala and southern part of Karnataka.
The road from Sukrawarpet Junction in the city to Mettupalayam had been encroached upon on either side thus making the motorable space inadequate for the growing volume of traffic.Mr.Devendran demanded that the road be widened into a four lane for which removal of encroachments was necessary. Owing to reasons of revenue and passenger patronage, the buses, both private and State-owned corporations, race against time with a very minimum carriage way.Hence, enforcement of road rules and imposition of penalty on violators should be intensified on this road to make it safer for travellers. Adequate lighting should be provided along the entire stretch, he said.
