Coimbatore Criminal News

In a significant breakthrough, the Special Teams of the Coimbatore City Police arrested three persons and recovered 34 sovereigns of gold jewellery from them. Malarvizhi, wife of Vijayan of Podanur, preferred a complaint stating that two persons on a motorcycle snatched her four sovereign gold chain when she was returning along with her husband on a motorcycle after attending a marriage. Podanur Police had registered a case. On August 22, S. Parvathy of K.K. Pudur in Sai Baba Colony preferred a complaint with the police stating that miscreants broke open the almirah and decamped with 24 sovereigns of gold jewellery when she was working at the backyard of the house.

Sai Baba Colony police registered a case. M. Bhuvaneswari of Ganapathy preferred a complaint stating that persons on a motor cycle snatched her seven sovereign gold chain on September 13, near Kulathupalayam. Kuniamuthur Police registered a case. On September 21, Selvaraj of Podanur Kadiravan Garden preferred a complaint stating that persons on a motorcycle snatched the chain of his daughter Latha when she was returning from work.



Following these incidents, the City Police Commissioner, K.C. Mahali, ordered constitution of special teams under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), K. Thondiraj. Special teams led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, M. Annadurai, based on a tip off were conducting vehicle checks on Madukkarai Road recently. The special teams intercepted ex-convicts and habitual offenders’ B. Saravanan alias Ganesan (24), S. Balan alias Balamurugan (24) and A. Vincent (24).



They confessed that they were involved in all the above four offences. The trio were remanded to judicial custody. Inquiries revealed that Saravanakumar was already convicted in various chain snatching and theft cases and was once detained under Goondas Act and was released only recently.


Warrants executed :



The police have executed an arrest warrant in respect of S. Maduraiveeran who was accused in a case of cell phone snatching in Ramanathapuram police limits and another warrant in respect of M. Lingeswaran (30) who was wanted in connection with a case of stealing construction materials. The duo were failing to appear before the court in connection with the cases and hence the warrants.


Man held :



Special teams of the Coimbatore City Police arrested Abbas alias Dori Abbas (23) of Kulathupalayam during a vehicle check on September 22. A scooter, five gold rings, a gold pendant worth Rs. 40,000 was recovered from him. Investigations revealed that he had stolen the scooter from Mohammed Masood at Kuniamuthur Idayarpalayam on September 18. Similarly, he had stolen the gold jewellery by a house in Kuniamuthur on September 20.
