Guest Lecturers Strike

Guest lecturers of L R G Government Women’s College staging a demonstration in Tirupur on Tuesday. The functioning of L.R.G. Government Women’s Arts College and Chikkanna Government Arts College was disrupted after 80 guest lecturers employed at these institutions observed a token strike on Tuesday. They demanded immediate disbursal of their salaries which were pending from April this year, and urged the Government to stop the ‘step motherly’ attitude shown to them.


Muthamizh Selvi, a senior member of Guest Lecturers’ Association of L.R.G. College, said that the guest lecturers were paid a consolidated amount of Rs 4,000 a month instead of Rs 8,000 a month stipulated by the University Grants Commission. Besides, increment was not given to any of the guest lecturers for the last five years.According to D Ravi, secretary, Guest Lecturers’ Association of Chikkanna College, the Government should withdraw the rules restricting the guest lecturers from applying for doctoral programmes.


“We are also not allowed to guide the M Phil students and value the examination papers,” he added. Later, guest lecturers staged a demonstration and submitted a memorandum to the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education seeking redressal of their grievances.
