Kaakka Kaakka Kovaiyai Kaakka
Four non-Governmental organisations and a university will join hands on October 2 to organise “Kaakka Kaakka Kovaiyai Kaakka”, an awareness programme against pollution. Siruthuli, Residents’ Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC), Kural and Karam will organise the programme in collaboration with Bharathiar University at five venues. According to Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam the event is being organised to sensitise people of Coimbatore to the problem of pollution and to create a resolve to tackle the problem together. It will be held at the five venues simultaneously from 9 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The venues are: VOC Park grounds, PSG College of Technology, Sowdeswari Vidyalaya, Chokkampudur, Shri Nehru Vidyalaya, and Coimbatore Market Committee campus where Mahatma Gandhi had planted a peepul tree.
Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee of Siruthuli, said the event would be a silent protest to fight pollution and environmental degradation. It would include lecture by speakers like Tamizharuvi Manian, Sumathi, Parveen Sultana and T. Rajaram. Short films and skits depicting the hazards of pollution would be shown. Nearly 10,000 students of 55 colleges would go door-to-door to distribute pamphlets about the October 2 event on September 28.
“They will create awareness about the campaign and also encourage the public to participate in the event at any of the five venues,” Mr. Thiruvasagam said. G. Soundararajan, Vice-President, RAAC, R.R. Balasundharam, Secretary of Karam, and D. Balasundaram, Chairman of Kural, also spoke.
