Staged Demonstration
Members of the Charitable Trust for Minorities and hundreds of Muslim men, women and children staged a demonstration in front of Red Cross Society Buildings on Huzur Road in the City on Friday evening demanding release of eligible serial blast case convicts who had served 11 years of sentence.
The demonstration was led by office-bearers of Charitable Trust for minorities and legal advisors of the community. Most of the speakers at the demonstration blamed the Government of discrimination in release of life convicts during the recent birth centenary of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai. There was no justification for the continued detention for those who had completed 11 years in jail when prisoners who had served only seven years had been released, they said. The speakers urged the Government to consider release of the eligible blast case convicts at least on October 2.
Irate investors attacked and ransacked a real estate firm on NSR Road in Sai Baba Colony on Friday. It is learnt that the investors were irked over the alleged “irresponsible” response from the promoters on providing sites to the investors. Police intervened and defused tension in the area. Further investigation into the incident is on.
