VOC 137th Birthday Celebrated

Floral tributes to the oil crusher pulled by V.O. Chidambaranar on Friday marked the observance of his 137th birth anniversary at the Central Prison entrance in Coimbatore. The Coimbatore VOC Peravai had organised the observance. Additional Superintendent and Superintendent incharge, P. Govindarajan, VOC Peravai president, Jayabalachandran, secretary, Seva Nambi, Nanjappan and others took part. The peravai functionaries and prison department officials garlanded the picture of Chidambaranar and paid floral tributes to the oil crusher pulled by Chidambaranar during his imprisonment during the freedom struggle.

The peravai has appealed to the Chief Minister to construct a manimandapam for Chidambaranar in the park grounds closer to Avanashi Road and sought installation of a statue of Chidambaranar there and also to shift the oil crusher pulled by VOC to the manimandapam. Peravai also sought a library there. Avanashi Road should be named after Chidambaranar, peravai said.
