CODISSIA Welcomes Government Assistance

Welcoming the Government’s announcement of assistance to micro and small units to buy diesel generator sets, the Coimbatore District Small Industries’ Association has urged the Government to notify and implement the scheme with immediate effect.

Association president K. Ilango said in a release here on Saturday that the State Government has announced that it would help micro and small units establish captive power plants by providing 25 per cent or Rs. 1.5 lakh subsidy to the units for purchase of up to 125 KVA diesel generator sets.

The Government had also said that it would include purchase of generator sets in the overall investment of the industry for availing of subsidies. Mr. Ilango said the power shortage in the State was acute and had affected over 50,000 micro, small and medium-scale units. This had resulted in a number of units turning sick and suffering from loss of production.

The Government should give loans for purchase of generator sets as the units were not in a position to pay the amount upfront and diesel should be supplied at a subsidised cost for the generator sets, he said.
