Drive Against Various Types Of Road Violations
The Transport Department has booked cases for overloading of vehicles with goods and passengers, non-possession of driving licence, insurance certificate, fitness certificate and pollution under control certificate. The department carried out a drive against various types of violations in Coimbatore, the Nilgiris and in some parts of Erode District on November 14 and 15. Cases were booked for the use of air horn and dazzling lights also.
Checks were carried out at K.G. Chavadi, Velanthavalam Road, L &T Bypass Road, near Velanthayamaram checkpost, Palladam-Tirupur-Pollachi Junction, in and around Udhagamandalam, national highway at Perundurai and Bhavani and also certain routes used by drivers to escape checks.
A press release from the department said 1,832 vehicles were checked. Non-payment of road tax was also detected and more than Rs.1.7 lakh was collected in tax. Of this, Rs.1.08 lakh was collected from omni buses. The highest collection of tax (Rs.72,740) from omni buses was done in the Bhavani area alone. More than Rs.69,000 was collected from other types of vehicles.
The release said 52 cases were booked for non-possession of pollution under control certificates. And 41 cases for the use of air horns and 24 for the use of dazzling headlights were also booked. The other cases booked were for unaccompanied luggage in omni buses, excess seat/berth in these vehicles. The checks also found instances of transportation on animals in vehicles that were not meant for this purpose.
