Drive Conducted Against Violation Of Road Rules
In a drive conducted by the Coimbatore Circle of the Transport Department against violation of road rules at over eight places in and around Coimbatore during the weekend, a total of 1,755 vehicles were intercepted and cases registered against 215 vehicles. A release from the Deputy Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore Circle, T. Gunasekaran, said that a sum of Rs. 87,395 was realised as tax and a sum of Rs. 4,300 was proposed as tax. For the various offences committed, a sum of Rs. 94,200 was collected as compounding fee and Rs. 2,51,100 was proposed as compounding fee to be realised by the respective registering authorities after adhering to procedural formalities such as serving show-cause notices seeking explanations.
A sum of Rs. 1.18 lakh was collected from omni buses as compounding fee for violations while Rs. 9,100 was proposed as compounding fee to be realised by the registering authorities. The offences detected included unaccompanied luggage and parcel, omni buses plying without paying tax, plying without pollution under control certificate, insurance certificate, use of air horns and dazzling head lights among others.
