Physiotherapists are as essential as doctors in helping a patient recover and seeing him rehabilitated from a state of incapacity due to genetic defect or an accident or illness. Hence, their job of prevention, restoration and rehabilitation is challenging, G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathiar University, said here recently. Delivering the graduation address at the PSG College of Physiotherapy, he urged the physiotherapy graduates to develop a thorough knowledge of human anatomy and the way the bones, muscles and nerves function.

“There is tremendous scope for physiotherapists to continue to hone their skills and expertise through specialisation in areas such as manipulation, sports injuries, paediatrics, and mental illness. They have a range of opportunities to work from a clinician to a researcher,” the Vice-Chancellor said. He wanted them to develop qualities like tolerance, ability to work independently, good management skills, empathy, and a responsible and mature attitude towards the needs of the patients.
