Invitation To Join Health Scheme

The Ex-servicemen Welfare Board has invited ex-servicemen to become members of the ECHS (Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme). The scheme, originally scheduled to have been closed in March 2008, has been extended to give a chance to those who have not yet become members. According to a release from the Board, the scheme enables ex-servicemen to receive free treatment at the ECHS Polyclinic. For specialised treatment, members will be sent to empanelled hospitals.

The scheme is a tri-services project that caters to the medicare of ex-servicemen pensioners and also extends to their spouse, children and wholly dependent parents. When the pensioner registers for the scheme he should pay a ‘one-time contribution’ between Rs. 1,800 and Rs. 18,000 depending on his pension. Those who have retired before January 1, 1996 will not be required to make any payment. For details, contact ECHS Cell, Station Head Quarters, Redfields, or ECHS Cell, AFAC, Redfields, or Assistant Director, Ex-servicemen Welfare Board; or call 0422-2214107.
