MoU Signed For Setting Up Van Vigyan Kendra
The Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding (IFGTB) and the State Forest Department have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for establishment of a Van Vigyan Kendra. The MoU was signed at a recent meeting organised to enable interaction between officials of the IFGTB and Forest Department. The Van Vigyan Kendra will help in dissemination of various technologies developed by the Institute and the department to the user groups including farmers and forest based industries.
The interaction session was attended by C.K. Sreedharan, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Tamil Nadu, N. Krishnakumar, Director of IFGTB, R.S.C. Jayaraj of IFGTB. Mr.Sreedharan highlighted the need for research on catchment area management, biodiversity assessment, planting on private lands, carbon trading. He also stressed the importance of taking up applied research than the basic research keeping the needs and aspirations of user agencies.
