New Tax Payment Centre Opened
The new tax payment centre opened by the Coimbatore Corporation near Ganapathy on Thursday. The Coimbatore Corporation opened yet another offsite computerised tax payment centre in the city on Thursday. The Corporation has already opened 12 such centres to enable people to pay tax anywhere in the city, rather than having to queue up at the offices of the Corporation.
Officials in the Corporation said that the new centre was located in Ward no.70 of North Zone. Apart from the people in this ward, it was also easily accessible to the people in wards 65, 66, 69, 71 and 72. The six wards had 25,000 Property Tax assessments, out of the 65,000 in North Zone. The officials said that people living in the wards other than these six also could pay their Property Tax and water charges at the new centre.
Mayor R. Venkatachalam, Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra, Deputy Mayor N. Karthik, North Zone Chairman C. Padmanabhan, councillors and officials of the Corporation were present at the opening of the new centre. Apart from the offsite tax payment centres, the Corporation had also tied up with nationalised and private banks to open special counters for the public to pay taxes to the civic body. People could also pay taxes online. These efforts were part of the Corporation’s e-governance initiative.
