Autorickshaw Drivers Staged Demo
About 150 autorickshaw drivers, affiliated to major trade unions, on Saturday staged a demonstration in the city, today demanding further reduction in petrol and diesel prices. The demonstrators raised slogans against the Centre and demanded that prices, which were increased following hike in oil prices, be reduced with immediate effect since the oil price has drastically come down to 40 dollars.Drivers, under the banner of Joint Committee of Federation of Coimbatore district All Auto unions, said the petrol prices could be reduced by rs.20 and diesel by rs.10 at the present situation. This would also help bring down the prices of vegetables and other essential commodities, they said. Leaders and drivers of CITU, BMS, MLF, AITUC, ATP and DMDK participated in the demonstration, police said.
