Bus Passenger Loses Bag Worth Of 40 Sovereigns Gold

A 43-year-old man filed a complaint with the Chrompet police, alleging that he lost 40 sovereigns of gold on a private transport bus while travelling to the city from Coimbatore on Tuesday. Bellarmin, a mill worker in Coimbatore, found that his bag containing the ornaments and other valuables was missing, when he was about to get off the bus. Bellarmin, along with the bus conductor and other passengers, searched the bus, but could not find the bag.

His ordeal was not yet over. When he went to Chrompet police station to file a complaint, sub-inspector Sasikala told him that she could not file an FIR, since it was outside the station's jurisdiction. Bellarmin complained to a senior official, who instructed the sub-inspector to register the complaint. A police official said, "Ballarmin's family had boarded the bus at Coimbatore and they put their baggage in the luggage compartment. Only when they were about to get down at Tambaram did they realise the bag was missing. We don't know where exactly the theft happened."
