TEA's Request To Centre
Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) today requested the Centre to settle the proposed transporters' strike issue amicably so as to save the exporting industry. The decision to go on an indefinite strike has come at a time when the exporters were already struggling to cope with the ongoing recession in US and EU coupled with reduction of orders from these markets, increased prices of inputs including transaction, TEA president, A Shaktivel, said in a letter to T R Baalu, Union minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways.
Moreover, if the garments were not exported at the right time, India would be losing its credibility among buyers and they may resort to the competing countries, which were ready to supply at right time, Shaktivel said. Considering the sustainability of trade in the global market, the issue should be settled amicably, he added.
