Coimbatoreians Pay Homage To The Victims

A section of the people who gathered at the PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore on Sunday to pay homage to the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks. At the fall of dusk on Sunday, Coimbatore paid homage to all those who had lost their lives in the Mumbai terror attacks by standing in silence and lighting candles. Men, women, children and the aged, NCC students, personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force and even the disabled gathered at the PSG College of Technology for a meeting to pay homage to the victims.


It was organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, Coimbatore District Small Industries Association, Southern India Mills’ Association, Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association, Indian Institute of Foundrymen, Siruthuli, Residents’ Awareness Association of Coimbatore, Karam and Kural. Pictures of the terror attack scrolled down a digital display board at the entrance and volunteers guided the public to the meeting ground. “Nenju Porukkudhilayae” was what the gathering expressed.



After a talk by T. Rajaram, former Head of the Department of Tamil of SVN College, industrialists N. Mahalingam and L.G. Varadaraj, former vice-chancellor of Bharathiar University Subbaiyan and CRPF Commandant Kannan lit the lamp on the stage. Candles lit from the lamp spread light across the ground. The citizens raised the candles as they sang the National Anthem, expressed solidarity with Mumbai and expressed resolve to fight terrorism.
