Flag Day Observance Function

District Collector V. Palanikumar (second left) hands over assistance to the family member of an ex-serviceman at a Flag Day observance function in the city on Sunday. Seven families of ex-servicemen received assistance ranging from Rs.1,000 to Rs.5,000 a family as part of the Flag Day observance here on Sunday. District Collector V. Palanikumar handed over marriage assistance of Rs.5,000 to one family and funeral expenses of Rs.3,000 each to the families of four ex-servicemen who passed away recently.

Assistance was also given to the widows of two ex-servicemen who had fought in World War II. The assistance was handed over at a function at the 110 TA Battalion at Red Fields, in the presence of its Commanding Officer Col.O.S. Yadav and Assistant Director of Ex-Servicemen Welfare R. Rajendran. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector pointed out that persons serving in the Army, Air Force and Navy had pledged their lives to the nation and the cause of protecting its people. Flag Day was observed as at tribute to their service.
