Security Has Been Strengthened In Coimbatore City

Security has been strengthened in Coimbatore city and rural district the measures will continue to be in force till Sunday.In Coimbatore city more than 2,000 police personnel would be deployed, said City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahali. The city has been brought under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioners of Police, S. Rajendran (Law and Order), K. Shanmugavel (Crime and Traffic) and P. Nagarajan (Headquarters).
The City Police have roped in additional reinforcements from Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion and Rapid Action Force (RAF) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Mr. Mahali said that checking of lodges and vehicles have been stepped up. Armed police pickets have been posted at sensitive areas and places of public congregation. Bus stands, railway stations and airports have been brought under round-the-clock tight vigil. Anti-Sabotage Teams of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad of the City Police and sniffer dogs have been kept in a state of readiness besides the Fire and Rescue Services Personnel. All vital installations are being brought under armed security cover.

Several organisations have approached the police seeking permission for staging a demonstration on the same day. Some minority organisations are planning to block trains. In Coimbatore Rural District, the Inspector-General of Police, Pramod Kumar, and Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Coimbatore Range, P. Sivanandi have drawn up a detailed security scheme. Security has been strengthened at communally sensitive areas in Tirupur, Mettuppalayam and Pollachi. More than 2,000 personnel are deployed under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, G. Karthikeyan. The Railway Police and Railway Protection Force have stepped up vigil.
