Fabtec India 2009 Inaugurated

Ilango (left) at the FABTEC INDIA 2009 which opened at CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore on Wednesday. For companies, slowdown period is the time to invest in technology, information technology and quality improvement, according to K. Surendra, advisor of Larsen and Toubro.

He was inaugurating Fabtec India 2009, a fabrication and welding exhibition organised by the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association and P.E. Schall GmbH, on Wednesday. At Larsen and Toubro, most of the investments were done during the lean periods. This was also the right time to reduce the schedule times, improve on quality and bring about changes in the shop floor and safety systems. P.E. Schall, director of P.E. Schall GmbH and Co, Germany, said this event would be a leading sheet metal exhibition in the future.

Venguswamy Ramaswamy, Global Head, Small and Medium Business of Tata Consultancy Services, said it’s “IT-as-a-service” solution for small and medium businesses here was tailor-made to suit the IT demands of these units. B. Pattabhiraman, president of Indian Welding Society, D. Gandhikumar, chairman of Fabtec India 2009, also spoke. The exhibition will be on till January 25.
