Flash Protest By Bus Crew

A police constable travelling in a town bus allegedly assaulted the bus conductor which resulted in a flash protest by the bus crew for nearly 20 minutes here on Monday. According to the police, the constable, who boarded the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus, had asked both the driver and the conductor to stop the bus for him to alight near the City Police Commissioner’s office and the District Collectorate. As the crew refused to stop the bus there, the constable is said to have argued with the conductor, Thangavel, and reportedly assaulted him and got down.

Irked over this, the bus crew along with some of their colleagues staged a flash protest near the railway station by parking the buses on the road. On information, City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahali directed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) S. Rajendran and Assistant Commissioner of Police N. Sundaravadivel to sort out the problem. On assurance from the police that the constable would be dealt with under the provisions of law, the crew withdrew the agitation. The conductor had preferred a complaint with the Race Course Police station based on which a case has been registered against the unidentified constable.
