LMW Along With CII Offering Technical Skill Development Programme

The Confederation of Indian Industry, southern region, will commence its technical skill development programme by early next week through seven corporate training centres. The industry body has set a target to train 15,000 workers by 2009.Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Manikam Ramaswami, chairman, CII-Tamil Nadu, said the seven centres, which had been set up by seven corporates, would be increased further.


These seven companies include Chennai-based Consolidated Construction Consortium Limited, which will offer training in construction, Coimbatore-based Lakshmi Machine Works, which would offer in training in engineering, Saint Gobain Glass (India) Ltd in logistics, TV Sundram Iyengar & Sons Ltd in automotive and logistics, Loyal Textile Mills Ltd in garments, Hyderabad’s National Academy of Construction in construction and CavinKare India would offer training in retail and beautician course. The average cost for training one person would be around Rs 5,900, he said. The CII, along with the Tamil Nadu government, has also initiated a soft skill training programme for teachers in the state. For this, CII has has tied up with three universities including Madras, Madurai Kamaraj and Manonmaniam Sundaranar .
