Road Blocked At Mettupalayam

Traffic on the Ooty Main Road at Mettupalayam was blocked for sometime on Tuesday when the relatives of a man who reportedly committed suicide in Karamadai by throwing himself before the Nilgiris Express on Monday demanded that they be given a copy of the suicide note. According to police, R. Murthy (48) of Kannarpalayam at Karamadai was found run over by the train that left Mettupalayam at 7.45 p.m. for Chennai via Coimbatore. While a post-mortem was being done on the body on Tuesday, police read out a four-page suicide note found along with Murthy’s identity card in his trouser pocket.

The deceased, who was working with a private security agency, had said in the note that he wanted to end his life because of harassment by three authorities of the Coimbatore branch of the company, for having questioned some malpractice indulged in by them. When the relatives asked for a copy of the letter, police refused to give one. After the post-mortem, the relatives staged the road blockade and said they would take the body only if a copy of the letter was given. Senior Police officials rushed to the spot and persuaded them to disperse. The relatives left with the body after a copy of the letter was given to them.
