The Confederation of Indian Industry has adopted a vision in 2007 of ‘India at 75’. Various activities have been planned and are being implemented to realise the dream of seeing India as a different nation in its 75th year of Independence, R. Mahadevan, Chairman, Education Sub-Committee, CII, Southern Region (SR), said here on Friday. He was speaking at the launch of the first college excellence cluster, comprising five institutions, at the GRG School of Management Studies.
This was the first cluster to be launched in the State and one of the activities of CII-SR to realise the ‘India at 75’ dream. There were many other institutions that had shown interest in forming clusters, Mr. Mahadevan said. According to him, the cluster initiative would contribute to the competitiveness of the higher education sector by working on aspects of quality, relevance and access through focussed activities that create natural synergies between industries and academics.
“As part of the Phase I, there will be chief executive officers, chief finance officers and chief operating officers visiting colleges and addressing students on various timely topics. There will also be industrial visits for staff and students. As part of the Phase II, specialised activities will be planned and maybe a CII College Excellence award might be instituted,” Mr. Mahadevan said.
