Demonstration By Coimbatore Jewellery Workers’ Union
The Coimbatore Jewellery Workers’ Union, affiliated to the CITU, will organise a demonstration here on March 17 to draw the Government’s attention to the problems faced by jewellery workers.
A release said about 50,000 workers were directly dependent on the jewellery trade and manufacturing here. The sector had faced challenging times and several workers had committed suicide. With gold prices soaring now, several working in the smithies were without job. Those who had job were receiving lower wages. The union would organise meetings here on March 16 and 17 to highlight the plight of the workers.
