District toppers aim for engineering, medicine

Engineering is the priority for most of the district toppers of the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Examinations (Plus-Two) 2009 here.

S. Surya of Venkatalakshmi Matriculation Higher Secondary School, who is the district first rank holder with a total of 1175, wants to do engineering (EEE).On his scoring high marks, he says, “My parents, teachers, school principal and friends supported me.” He was the school topper in Standard X. “Full credit goes to him,” says his father, S. Shankaranarayanan, who works in a private firm here. The school took care of him, he adds.

The district second rank holder, R. Sambath Selvi of RKR Higher Secondary School, Udumalpet, (total : 1173) also wants to do engineering (ECE).She had taken computer science group (mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science) and studied till late in the night while preparing for the plus two examinations. To her, family and school were the main support.

Third ranks

Three students have bagged the district third rank with a total of 1170. They are: E. Abbinaya of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pollachi, S.R. Jeevanarmadha of Bharatiya Vidya Mandir Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pollachi and S. Santhosh Kumar of SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chokkampudur.

Abbinaya wants to do medicine. Her father is a doctor and she wants to get into the same profession. She went for tuitions only for tests. It is important to be thorough with the portions and take more tests, she says.

According to Jeevanarmadha, it is her father’s dream that she becomes a doctor and she wants to fulfil it. Both, Abbinaya and Jeevanarmadha say their school, teachers and parents have helped them score high marks.

Santhosh Kumar wants to do mechanical engineering and is waiting for counselling. He used to be top scorer in his class and had expected high marks.He attended tuitions for physics and chemistry.

The overall top rankers in the district (first language other than Tamil), with a total of 1182, are F. Dharshini Dhanaraj of Vidhyaniketan Matriculation Higher Secondary School and R. Ayswarya of Avila Convent Matriculation Higher Secondary School.Dharshini had expected a school-level rank. She is proud of her school and plans to do fashion technology. Ayswarya says her parents and teachers always encouraged her.
