Emphasis on quality trauma care
Trauma care facilities are inadequate in the country despite the rise in the number of accidents, Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra said here at a recent Intensive Care Update organised by Kovai Medical Center and Hospital.According to a press release from the hospital, the Commissioner stressed the need for awareness on saving those injured in road accidents and rushing them to hospitals for trauma care. At the same time, trauma care facilities should also be improved.
Chairman of the hospital Nalla G. Palanisami said there were many hospitals in the city but there were not enough trained persons to handle trauma victims. The hospitals had modern equipment, but even the nurses lacked the knowledge and skill in handling the victims.
Both Mr. Mishra and Dr. Palanisami felt that programmes such as the update on intensive care would go a long way in generating awareness on trauma care among doctors, hospital staff and the general public.
