Expo for pet lovers !

The Kovai ‘O’ Fish Expo, an exhibition of ornamental fish along with a variety of other pet animals, including birds and dogs, is on at the Suguna Kalyana Mandapam here. It concludes on May 25.A diverse collection of rare and expensive fish such as flower horn, Arowanna, angel fish, Neon tetra, Balloon Mollies, gold fish, are among those showcased.

“We have also displayed details such as their genus name, origin, water type\temperature, and food type for all the species of fish, to educate the public so that they can appreciate them better, “said V.P. Prinson, co-ordinator.He said the expo would focus on the farmers involved in ornamental fish rearing.

“Most of the fish are imported and bred in Kolathur, Chennai, where the largest small-scale ornamental fish farming industry is situated in India.The fish here costs between Rs. 5 and Rs. 50,000,” he explained.

All the fish displayed here are brought from Chennai.Besides, the expo includes a number of exotic birds and dog breeds. All the exhibited fish and animals are for sale.These apart, pet products such as different sizes of fish tanks, oxygen generators, ornamental underwater plants, fish food, bird and dog accessories, etc. are sold here.

The expo also has stalls that provide information, books and CDs on ornamental and fish farming.The event is supported by Tairo, Aquarium World and www.agriindia online.com. The expo is open between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
