Efforts to abolish child labour in Coimbatore
Speaking at the meeting, the Collector said industries and commercial establishments should have a notice board at the entrance of the establishment mentioning the minimum age requirement for employment in their units. Those outsourcing work to smaller units (vendors and sub-contractors) should take an undertaking that the smaller units did not employ child workers.
In the textile units, where a large number of women from other districts were employed, the employers should have the age certificate of the workers.Child labour was almost abolished in hazardous and large-scale units in the district. Efforts were on the abolish child labour in other sectors too. By adopting these measures, industries could help the district become child labour-free. In the case of specific complaints of employment of children in any unit the public should inform the district administration.
