Life Sciences Centre in Bharatiyar University

DRDO plans to network with varsities for research programs;


Vellore: The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), an organization of Ministry of Defence, is planning networking with universities for undertaking various research programmes during the XI Plan. The information to this effect was provided by W. Selvamurthy, Chief Controller, Research and Development, DRDO, at a seminar on Protein Science and Engineering organized by VIT University on its campus.


According to Mr. Selvamurth, the Government alone cannot promote higher education. It requires universities participation too. "We need public-private partnership, especially in the advanced fields of education." Detailing the plans further, Mr. Selvamurth said that under the new plan DRDO would sub-contract its works to the universities during the XI plan.It must be noted that the DRDO had set up a Life Sciences Centre in Bharatiyar University, Coimbatore, at an investment of Rs.18 crore during the X Plan. Now during the XI Plan, it expects the seeding technologies to come from the universities.
