Mahatma Gandhiji's principles in rural schools

Popularising Gandhian principles in rural schools

COIMBATORE: Government schools in the Periyanaickenpalayam, Mettupalayam, Perur and Sulur blocks now have Gandhian Study Clubs. These are groups of students who will distribute booklets on the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi and popularise Gandhian principles among the rest of the students in school.

Formed by the Gandhian Study Centre of Avinashilingam University, these clubs focus on familiarising children with Gandhiji, said K.C. Leelavathy Sekhar, Director, Centre for Women's Studies and Gandhian Studies, Avinashilingam University. About 70 such clubs had been opened in schools in various rural areas in and around Coimbatore city. The faculty members of the university would talk to these clubs about the Mahatma.
The centre of the university had formed similar clubs in tribal schools earlier. They would be opened in urban schools too, she said.
