IBM started its operations in Coimbatore

IT major IBM India today started its operations in the city eyeing large presence of small and medium business, particularly in the manufacturing sector.Coimbatore would be an important market for the company and the new office would further cement the commitment to grow the region to an even stronger global market through innovative collaboration with IT and their business, Ramesh Narasimhan, Director, Global Small and Medium Business, IBM India, told reporters here.

Making a foray into Coimbatore was IBM's part of expansion plans to enter 14 new cities, which included Madurai, Kochi and Visakhapatnam in the south and Goa, he said.IBM has earmarked six billion US dollars for its Indian operations this year. As the IT industry was witnessing a growth of 20 per cent, the company also was targeting a growth double than the industry, he said.


With over 3,000 small and medium business customers in India, IBM's operations in the city would target various clients in government, banking and finance, retail, manufacturing, automotive, educational sectors among others, Ramesh said.The company's technologies and solution for India's small and mid-market businesses provided a competitive edge in this era of globalisation, Ramesh claimed.
