CODISSIA Website launched

Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner (MSME) Jawhar Sircar (centre) launching the CODISSIA website at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex here on Sunday.Skill development and technological improvement are the thrust areas in the small scale sector, Jawhar Sircar, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) said here on Sunday.Launching the website of the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA), he said that the Ministry was running training programmes in basic skill development, which also increased the scope for self-employment. There was a demand for welders, fitters, masons and electricians who were trained according to international standards.

In technology, the focus was on individual clusters, Mr. Sircar said. Design centres and clinics should be set up. He pointed out that much had been done to improve design. The domestic pump industry had been using the same design for the last 40 years, he said.The heart of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) lay in micro industries and most of them were still in functioning in a primitive condition.Mr. Sircar said the Indian industry had experienced a phenomenal growth in the last 10 years and the country had grown to the status of an industrial superpower. The SME sector had also been strengthened as it had been able to keep pace with the rapid development.
