TWAD Board workers attending to a leak in the Pilloor water supply main pipeline, near Veearapandi Pirivu, about 35 km from the city, on Tuesday.The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) officials are attending to the four leakages in the water supply main pipeline of the Pilloor Water Supply scheme.There would be no water supply on Tuesday and Wednesday for undertaking maintenance works, the TWAD authorities said.
They have already detected leaks at four sites about one km from Veerapandi pirivu towards Kattan Hills. Earth movers, rock breakers, sullage pumping lorry and over 50 workers have been pressed into service to the four sites where leaks had been detected.A team of officials led by Executive Engineer S. Rathnavelu, Assistant Executive Engineer P. Gopalakrishnan, Assistant Engineer K. Radhakrishnan and Corporation Assistant Engineer K. Karuppasamy were camping at the site for expediting the work. Authorities were getting the work done on a war footing, since any further suspension of pumping would adversely affect the drinking water supply for a part of Coimbatore Corporation areas and a number of wayside habitations.
According to the officials, of the four leaks, works had been completed to plug two major leaks while the work was nearing completion in respect of the third. The officials were confident of completing the works by Wednesday evening and resuming the pumping by Wednesday night.Water is expected to reach the City by Thursday morning for resumption of normal supply schedule.
