Encroachments removed
Tension prevailed on Thadagam Road here on Thursday morning when the highways and revenue authorities tried to evict encroachers from the road as part of widening it.Three earth movers and nearly hundred workers were pressed into service.As planned, authorities commenced demolition of encroachments from Gandhipark area this morning.There was not much of a resistance when authorities razed down houses but attempts to bring down three temples was opposed by the people.

They said that these temples were more than 100 years old.It was decided that a meeting would be convened to discuss the issue.A miscreant hurled stone at one of the earth movers damaging its windscreen. This escalated the tension.Special teams of the Coimbatore City Police have arrested Balaji Suresh Bosle (20) and have recovered 3,286 gm of gold jewellery worth Rs. 41 lakh. The police said that the gold was given to a goldsmith unit run by Vishwas on Big Bazaar Street by a reputed jewellery firm in the city.
On December 21, 2007 the gold was reported missing and needle of suspicion evolved around one of the goldsmith workers Bosle, who had gone missing since then. One of the special teams led by Inspector (Crime) Ravichandran of Variety Hall Road on February 27 arrested Bosle and recovered the gold made into seven blocks.
