In a significant initiative, from April 1 a special cell at the Coimbatore Corporation will receive complaints from the people regarding the slow pace or non-implementation of its developmental works. People can also suggest to the cell at what pace they want works to progress. They can also point out problems in the services, such as flaws in water supply, and call for remedial measures. Coimbatore will be first city to introduce this facility
Explaining the functioning of the system, Corporation Commissioner P. Muthuveeran told presspersons here on Wednesday that the cell would pass on the complaints and views to the heads of departments concerned for quick action. The system would ensure that the grievances were recorded and acted upon. A dedicated telephone line would be provided.As part of making the service delivery system transparent, the Corporation’s website would have details of works relating to core basic amenities such as roads, drainage and water supply. “Even the plans and allocations will be available on the website. People can know what the Corporation is doing for their layouts or the entire city,” the Commissioner said.
The Corporation is moving forward with a system of online approval of building plans, he said. People could access the necessary forms through its website.A special software would enable the Corporation accept applications, building plans and payments online. This would help eliminate delays in approval and make the system transparent.The software would factor in the zoning details of the city, such as industrial, commercial and residential. This would help people check out the guidelines governing construction in these zones.
“Coimbatore will be first city to introduce this facility,” the Commissioner said.But the online system would not take off immediately. A trial run would be conducted on March 25. From April 1, speeding up of the existing system would be tried out. “The acceptance of hard copy plans and granting of approval will be done on the same day before shifting to the online system,” he said.
