Tax Collection On Saturday, Sunday
The Coimbatore Corporation will collect taxes on Saturday and Sunday also in order to get close to 100 per cent collection by the end of this month, officials in the civic body said on Friday. Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) R. Prabhakaran said Rs.39.15 lakh taxes and water charges, including more than Rs.30 lakh Property Tax, was collected on Friday, despite a Government holiday owing to Good Friday. These were all cash collection. The amount could be more after the sums paid by cheques were totalled.

Finance and Taxation Committee Chairman of the Corporation A. Nandakumar and officials of the civic body went to a private hospital along Avanashi Road in the middle of the city to ask its management to pay over Rs.1 crore it owed to the Corporation as tax arrears. Another private hospital paid Rs.1.14 crore to the Corporation on Thursday after huge dues had accumulated over many years, the officials said. The disconnection of water lines continued as punitive action against tax default.
