With the cluster programme, officers will create awareness on these programmes and help the textile units benefit. These clusters have units that are into weaving, spinning and processing. Though the units are aware of the Government initiatives, the aim is to revive the cluster approach and help the units make better use of the schemes. Officers have been trained at the Entrepreneurship Development Institute in Ahmedabad for this. This will be a continuous programme, he says. The officers will create awareness on technical textiles too.

Mr. Bandyopadhyay says that a number of entrepreneurs, especially the young ones, are evincing interest in technical textiles. The Central Government would soon come out with a technology mission for technical textiles and identify the South India Textile Research Association as one of the centres of excellence for this. These would give a boost to investments in technical textiles.
