Auto DCR Will Extend To LPA

The Automatic scrutiny of Development Control Rules (Auto DCR), which is on a trial run in Coimbatore Corporation, is likely to be extended to the Local Planning Authority (LPA). The software enables checking every aspect of a building plan to see if it adhered to rules. If any portion of the plan is rejected, the software will specify the rules that it did not conform to. The local chapters of the Builders’ Association of India, Institute of Indian Architects, Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India) and the Coimbatore Property Developers’ Association had joined hands with the Coimbatore Corporation to procure the software and implement this programme in the city.

This will bring about transparency and minimise the time needed to scrutinise a building plan submitted to the local body. According to the Joint Director of the Local Planning Authority, G. Manickavasagam Pillai, the LPA already had some e-governance initiatives in place. Public could know about the 56 schemes sanctioned for this region through the website. It was planned to include tracing applications online.

He said there were three different types of buildings. The Corporation approved type one buildings. Type two buildings (special buildings) had to be approved by the LPA and the multi-storeyed buildings (type three) were sent to Chennai for approval. In all these, field-level verification and document verification would continue to be done manually.
