Drive Against Stray Cattle

The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals removed 40 goats that were found hindering traffic on Coimbatore roads on Wednesday. Society for Protection of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) conducted a drive against stray cattle and took away 40 goats that were found hindering the traffic on the roads in West Coimbatore. Following reports about stray cattle menace, the President of SPCA and District Collector, V. Palanikumar, Vice-President and Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, G. Karthikeyan, Rgional Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, V. Jagadeesan for conducting drive against stray cattle menace.
A team led by SPCA Inspectors, J. Fredrick Vimalan and R. Balakrishnan conducted raids on arterial roads in West Coimbatore while the Corporation Commissioner, V.K. Shanmugam provided lorries, vehicles and manpower for catching the stray cattle i.e., goats. The goats that caused obstruction to traffic were impounded and would be restored to the original owners after they paid the fine. The seizure of cattle had been effected under the provisions of Section 11 (1) (h) and (i) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The SPCA is planning to intensify the drive against stray cattle focussing more on horses, cows and donkeys. The administration has decided to display zero tolerance towards stray cattle menace, since it was an eyesore on the roads besides hindering the free flow of traffic on the roads.
