Training Programme For Rural Youth
Ashish K.Mandal, Vice_President, L&T inaugurating a training programme for rural youth in Coimbatore. Larsen and Toubro (L&T) public charitable trust launched a skill training programme for self-employment of rural youth along with Shanti Ashram, a Gandhian voluntary organisation based at Kovaipudur. The programme, ‘UDDYAM,’ would include tailoring, masala powder and food products making.
They will also be trained in charkha weaving. About 150 women would benefit from it. Inaugurating the programme, Ashish K. Mandal, Vice-President, L&T, Coimbatore, said the company was running a number of vocational institutes for unemployed youth and for women. L&T and Shanti Ashram had carried out a Panchayat level Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) at Malumichampatti and Podanur Chettipalayam panchayats to assess the needs of the youth before designing a skill training programme for them.
Minoti Aram, president, Shanti Ashram, said there was a need to empower the womenfolk who played an active role in the economic and social transformation of rural areas. V.B.Dandayudham, former secretary, North Sarvodaya Sangh, said the Sarvodaya Sangh would extend help to the project by supplying raw materials and buying the finished products. More than 180 participants from the Malumichampatti and Podanur panchayats attended the programme.
