Residents Upset

The Association for those affected by the Urban Land Ceiling Act expressed displeasure at the lack of relief in the recent Government Order issued regarding regularisation of sites that were brought under the Urban Land Ceiling Act. In a release, R. Mohan, President of the Association pointed out that the recently issued Government Order has failed to bring in any relief to the victims of the Urban Land Ceiling Act.

As a result of the Revenue Department’s announcement regarding the Urban Land Ceiling Act, there was a ban on registration of those lands that were under the Urban Land Ceiling Act. Due to the industrial recession in Coimbatore and economic slow down many industries and mills were closed down but unfortunately the sites or the houses couldn’t be sold because of the restriction imposed in the name of Urban Land Ceiling Act.

The Government order has come as a blow for the residents who were hoping for some relief, he added. The association demanded that the restriction on sale and disposal of such properties should be withdrawn and the Government should stop collecting any fee for regularisation. The Government should also announce that the sites could be regularised based on the development charges remitted with the respective local bodies. Failing which, the association announced that 20,000 residents living in such areas would be forced to picket the Collector’s office.
