Development works on in town panchayats
The newly-laid Velanthavalam-Thoppam Palayam Road under the Anaithu Perooratchi Anna Marumalarchi Thittam at Othakalmandapam, near Coimbatore. Various development works are being carried out in 13 town panchayats in the district under the second phase of the Anna Marumalarchi Thittam for these local bodies, according to the district administration. The town panchayats chosen for works in the current financial year are Suleswaranpatti, Zamin Uthukuli, Thondamuthur, Perur, Samalapuram, Othakalmandapam, Ettimadai, Sarcarsamakulam, Madukkarai, Anamalai, Madathukulam, Thirumalayampalayam and Vedapatti. This is part of a State-wide four-year programme for development in 561 town panchayats across the State, a release from the administration has said.
Tar roads, drinking water supply lines, drainage, community halls and burial grounds were some of the works being carried out. The outlay for 145 works during the current year was Rs. 7.69 crore. Last year, 137 works were carried out at Rs. 6.76 crore. Manure was being made out of garbage in 52 town panchayats. Ten town panchayats that did not have sites for landfill would be linked to the Coimbatore Corporation’s solid waste management project, the release said. Efforts were being made to get sites from the Revenue Department for 18 town panchayats, the release said.
