Former Indian Hockey Captain At Coimbatore
Former Indian hockey captain and coach, V Bhaskaran on Saturday advocated a change in the education system, particularly school timings, so that children could be involved more in sports. "It was wrong thinking that by involving in sports activities one's academic standards would take a beating and the child would lose interest in education," Bhaskaran said while speaking at a seminar on "creating champions in life- Holistic education through Sports," here.
Naming eminent sportspersons, who have excelled both in education and sports fields, like Ramanathan Krishnan, his son Ramesh Krishnan, Vishwanathan Anand and S Venkataraghavan, he said that the Chairman of Cricket selection committee, K Srikkanth an engineer, was successful in cricket.
On the system of education, Bhaskaran said the management and the Government have to consider to change the timings, from early 8 am to at least 9.30 am to 5 pm. The students could be involved in sports after 3 pm, when almost all schools were closed. Sports is the only field, where rivals shake hands before and after the contest, whereas politicians 'never lookeye to eye or shook hands before or after elections', Bhaskaran said.
