Ooty Hoteliers Fear After Mumbai Attack

The terror attacks on Mumba five star hotels have caused panic among the tourists and business community all over the world. Hoteliers in Ooty, a global tourist destination, are worried that they will virtually lose the normal December (Christmas) and January (New Year) foreign tourist rush. Tourists from Britain, France, USA, Africa and Australia stayed not only in star hotels and heritage hotels such as Taj Shevoy and Young Women Christian Association but also in non-star category hotels during peak winter period - from mid-December to mid-January.

Talking to this , N Chandrasekar, secretary of Nilgiris Hotel and Restaurant Association, said the advance bookings for Christmas and New Year would automatically get cancelled. There is no doubt that tourism will be hit this year. This apart, the global recession will also hit the tourism industry, he said. He suggested the government to recommend the hotel managements to use metal detector.
