Coimbatore Tea Action
Domesotic buyers were more active compared to exporters at the weekly tea auction held at Coimbatore on August 14. The gradual price rise of the tea is seen as the reason for the slowdown by the exporters. The auction saw an increase of Rs 7 per kg compared to previous week in the dust segment but the average price rise was Rs 3 per kg when compared to previous week. The good liquoring teas fetched good price between Rs 4 and Rs 7 per kg more than previous week as packeteers were active.
The medium and plainer sorts went up by Rs 2 to Rs 3 per kg. In the leaf category, the orthodox highgrowns were dearer by Rs 2 to Rs 4 per kg compared to previous week whereas mediums and secondaries increased by Rs 2 to Rs 3 per kg. CTC leaf bolders were well contested and the prices rose to Rs 5 more than previous week. The brokens were dearer by Rs 2 to Rs 3 per kg and the fannings were firm and increased slightly by Rs 1 to Rs 2 per kg.
