Corporation to Re-lay Road
A major portion of the road, almost up to the Combined Court Complex, had been dug up to lay a new drainage line. An old, inadequate and worn out line was replaced with a bigger one as it burst often and caused stagnation of sewage on the road. The problem had persisted for years and the Corporation had almost convinced the hotels and other commercial establishments along the road to provide funds for a new line as they would only use it. As this project failed to take off, the Corporation itself took up the task of providing a new line last year.
But, the solution it provided gave a new problem for the road users. The new line ended the agony caused by sewerage bursts, but the road remained a shamble for months. Besides the court, a supermarket, three big hotels and other eateries, a commercial complex and a college are located on this road. Taking note of the anguish among the people who use this road every day, the Corporation sought to assure them on Saturday that the hardship they had been put to would come to an end soon.
